If you’re a CFO, don’t say your a money whisperer, conversely if you’re an HR person, don’t say you’re a people and culture expert. Think about classic org. charts and main stream job descriptions, that’s what shows up in Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, ATSs and Google.

5. Don’t Spam Recruiters
Find recruiters that have a track record placing people that do what you do. Look up their job postings and engage yourself accordingly. Call them, email them, keep it short and simple. Don’t send special reports, Slide Share or glossy professional profiles, it’s a waste of time, no one reads them, in fact they get deleted.

6. Completed Social Media Profiles Rank First
It’s not the most qualified candidate that shows up first when recruiters search Applicant Tracking Systems or LinkedIn, it’s the most completed profile.
-Keep resumes format simple when you apply on line – copy should be chronological and without fancy graphics – word docs upload more effectively than PDFs.
– LinkedIn profiles with photographs, work history, skills and education float to the top over profiles without all fields populated.

I am the founder of i-identify inc., a Toronto-based recruiting company, founded in 2013. My research uncovers full-time, interim and contract professionals who are leaders in their respective fields. My early work was focused on the emerging tech - sector, and later expanded into retail and consumer packaged goods technologies. In the past five to six years I have broadened my expertise to include Canada's public and not-for-profit sectors, working on assignments as far north as Iqaluit, uncovering talent as senior as Deputy Ministers, Commissioners and executives at the C level. I've become a search generalist who specializes in identifying great talent.
